Clinic works to ‘Give Kids a Smile’
“I like getting my teeth cleaned,” said the 7-year-old, who added she likes brushing her teeth, especially to avoid going to bed.
Juds is one of three children in her family who receive dental care at the Tippecanoe Community Health Clinic. Without the clinic, the children would not have access to dental care.
To expand dental care access to other children who might be in similar situations, the clinic is hosting “Give Kids a Smile Day,” along with the Indiana Dental Association and the American Dental Association, on Friday.
There are four other local dentists participating in the event, according to the Indiana Dental Association.
The program, which was first launched in 2003 by the American Dental Association, gives children who do not have access to dental insurance free services including screenings, cleanings and fillings.
Last year, there were 1,878 programs nationwide serving about 478,000 children, according to the ADA.
