The market for botox ® treatments is growing. In a report published by GlobalData, “the global market for facial aesthetics is forecast to reach about $4 billion in 2017 at a compound annual growth rate of 9%. The growth is expected to be driven by minimally invasive procedures that offer long term results at competitive pricing.” The key to dentists capturing a portion of this growing market is by engaging in comprehensive, hands-on, physician-lead Botox ® Training like that offered at the IAPAM’s Aesthetic Medicine Symposium with Botox ® Training.

Catherine Maley, frequent contributor to the IAPAM and author of Your Aesthetic Practice , agrees. She comments that a dentist sees “on average 8 dental patients per day. Pareto’s Law of 80/20 Rue says that 20% will convert to aesthetics if asked. That’s 1.6 patients per day multiplied by the average cost of a Botox ® treatment at $2350 and that equals $560 per day. Now multiply that by 22 working days per month, and multiply that again over 12 months,” and an expertly trained dentist could see his/her dental practice grow by over $100,000 in revenue in a year.

Dentists can capture this growth in 2011 and beyond, by attending “all-inclusive” training programs, offered in medical facilities not hotel rooms, and lead by board-certified dermatologists and aesthetic medicine business experts, such as the IAPAM’s Aesthetic Medicine Symposiums, the IAPAM’s Aesthetic Practice Start-Up Seminars, and the IAPAM’s Advanced Botox ® and Dermal Filler Programs.

Following the growing interest of dentists in getting certified in Botox injections, Elite AMBT is now presenting a new Botox Training option designed specifically for dentists. The program will follow the same concept as the regular formation but will put the emphasis on injections and information that relates to dentistry.

Elite AMBT, leading provider of aesthetic and medical training and certifications, is announcing the debut of a new Botox Training program specially designed for dentists. As dentists are showing a certain interest in adding Botox injections to their skills, the program will be targeting specific injections in the mouth area and other techniques related to dentistry and esthetic enhancements.

Just like its sister program – the regular Botox Training certification – this program will feature live models for participants to learn and practice on actual skin tissues. Certification is usually obtained after a 12 hour workshop under the form of a seminar, but participants can also learn at their own pace by choosing private training or webinars as their preferred method of learning.

Elite Aesthetic Medical and Business Training has been providing complete training programs for health practitioners. Other certifications include Cosmetic Lasers, Sensitive Weight Loss, Fibromyalgia, Lipodissolve/Mesotherapy, Low Level Laser Therapy as well as Marketing and Business Implementation courses. Elite AMBT’s seminars and workshops are offered in all major cities in North America as well as a few locations in the United Kingdom.

The therapeutic use of one’s own platelet rich plasma constitutes a relatively new biotechnology that has been a breakthrough in the stimulation and acceleration of soft tissue and bone healing. S3 Therapy has the purpose to regenerate the skin. S3 Therapy Stimulated Self serum therapy improves the appearance of wrinkles, heals scars as well as other cutaneous damage. The treatment also stimulates the skin helping to increase cellular growth and visco-elastic regeneration. This technique is used when it is necessary to improve the skin profile: the face, neck, decolletè, arms and hands, the inner thighs and early hair loss. The procedure was originally invented by a dentist to treat receding gums, but is now being used on many skin areas for cosmetic purposes.

The new rule would require dentists to undergo training for the use of BOTOX.

The board has not made a decision on the issue, but is asking for comments from the public.

You can make comments at http://www.state.ia.us/dentalboard/index.html.

The text of the position statement from the Dental Board is below

_____________________________________

Botox or Dermal Fillers

Iowa law limits dentists to providing services that are within the scope of dentistry, which is defined in Iowa Code section 153.13(2) as duties that include, “examination, diagnosis, treatment, and attempted correction by any medicine, appliance, surgery, or other appropriate method of any disease, condition, disorder, lesion, injury, deformity, or defect of the oral cavity and maxillofacial area, including teeth, gums, jaws, and associated structures and tissue, which methods by education, background experience, and expertise are common to the practice of dentistry.

A dental license further extends the scope of authority of a dentist to prescribe, administer, or dispense prescription medications. However, such authority is granted only “if the use is directly related to the practice of dentistry within the scope of the dentist-patient relationship.” 650-IAC16.2(1) Board rules further require that a dental exam be conducted and a medical history taken before a dentist prescribes, administers, or dispenses medication to a patient.

The Board has determined that under these laws, a dentist may administer botox and other derma fillers if the use of those medications is directly related to the practice of dentistry, but only if the dentist has successfully completed appropriate education and training. The Board has determined that at this time, the only dentists who have completed appropriate education and training to use these medications in the practice of dentistry are dentists who have completed an ADA-accredited residency program which includes in the scope of its education and training the administration of botox and other derma fillers.
